Constantia Wine Tour – Full day Private Tour
Constantia is the birthplace of the wine farming industry in South Africa. Located just 20 minutes outside of Cape Town’s city bowl, it is breathtakingly beautiful, with vineyard rows that stretch up the eastern slopes of the Constantiaberg mountainside. The route is an easy day trip and the farms provide quality restaurants for lunches and tea.
Duration of tour: 8 hours
The tour commences with a 08h30 collection from your city based hotel. We visit Klein Constantia Wine Estate. Klein Constantia Estate produces an array of varietal labelled premium wines and small quantities of Semillon, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. Probably the most famous and admired wine is the Vin de Constance.
Afterward, we proceed to Groot Constantia Wine Estate where the roots of the South African wine industry lie. It is the oldest wine producing farm in South Africa and has won numerous awards for its wines, and has done so consistently. Our stop at Groot Constantia includes a visit to the Manor House which houses a cultural history museum portraying the early years of Groot Constantia. Afterward, we enjoy a tour of the Cloete Cellar. We end our visit to Groot Constantia with a wine tasting followed by lunch at Jonkershuis Restaurant.
We end the day with a final estate visit to Steenberg Estate. The Steenberg farmstead including the manor house and the other buildings are a national monument. We visit the state-of-the-art cellar, and has the capacity to produce around 70,000 cases, the cellar also boasts a vinoteque, where bottled wines can be kept under ideal conditions until ready to be enjoyed.
Upon conclusion of our tour, we travel via Ou Kaapse Weg and via the Atlantic Seaboard back to the city. The tour ends on arrival at your hotel around 17h00.
